Voyage Media: Film Pitch Decks for Story-Driven Films Based on True Events
Voyage Media works across many film projects, and I was brought in to support a set of films rooted in real events, personal histories, and stories that were never widely recorded. Because these films are based on true experiences, the pitch materials needed to communicate emotional depth, historical context, and cinematic tone before the films themselves existed.
I collaborated with Voyage Media to develop pitch decks for Sallie’s Crying Tree, Josie, and Angels From Heaven. Each deck was designed to feel distinct to its story, while following a shared process that supported clear storytelling, collaboration, and future development.
Process & Challenge
Many of Voyage Media’s films are rooted in true stories, including forgotten histories and personal experiences that were never formally documented. For projects like Sallie’s Crying Tree and Josie, traditional reference imagery such as archival photos or historical illustrations either did not exist or failed to reflect the emotional specificity of each story.
The challenge was to visually communicate tone, setting, and emotional weight without relying on generic or misleading references. The pitch decks needed to help collaborators emotionally step into each film’s world, not simply understand the story at a surface level.
To address this, I developed a repeatable deck process that balanced narrative structure, visual tone, and emotional pacing. AI-generated imagery was used intentionally as a visualization tool to create story-specific visuals that reflected mood, atmosphere, and character. This approach allowed the decks to feel cinematic and alive while remaining respectful to the real events that inspired them.
Rather than functioning as final artwork, the visuals served as a shared language for early development, giving collaborators clarity without locking the films into fixed interpretations.
This approach helped the decks:
- Avoid overly literal or inaccurate historical references
- Support stories based on undocumented or overlooked history
- Establish emotional clarity while preserving creative flexibility
- Create a cohesive visual foundation for collaboration and future development

The final decks gave Voyage Media a cohesive yet flexible set of tools to present their film projects with clarity and emotional resonance. Each deck successfully communicated tone, theme, and narrative intent, helping bring untold and forgotten stories to life in a way that felt cinematic, respectful, and intentional.
The established process now serves as a foundation for future Voyage Media projects, allowing new stories to be developed efficiently without sacrificing depth or individuality.
